Description
French design stainless steel console "Gerbe" by Maria Pergay, France 1972
Edited by Design Steel around 1970, the company that Maria Pergay founded with Marina Varenne in Paris in 1970 and which edited the designers pieces until 1977 when Maria Pergay decided to take over the business alone.
The heavy structure of the console is in mirror polished and brushed stainless steel. The use of these two steel textures is typical for Pergay throughout her creations. The half moon shaped top in thick dark grey tinted glass matches perfectly with the impressive stainless steel structure.
NYC based gallery Demisch Danant has recently curated an exhibition called Precious Strength which shed a new light on Maria Pergay's work confirming her place in the history of french 20th century design.
