Model 5557 Murano glass chandelier by Gio Ponti for Venini, Italy 1946-1948
This absolutely stunning chandelier has been originally designed in 1946 by Gio Ponti for Venini referenced under the model name 960/5-8 in the red Venini catalogue.
The glass bowls composing the central structure as well as the 6 elegantly shaped curved arms are crafted of handblown multicoloured Murano glass.
The wavy edged cups are made of transparent blown glass.
Embossed "5557" in the perforated aluminium arm holder this is a particular rare old edition of this iconic model by Gio Ponti dating between 1950-1960.
The chandelier has been designed to fit either 6 or 8 arms.
The later editions after 1970 feature a "Gio Ponti per Venini" signature incised in the blue glass bowl.
This chandelier combines timeless elegance with the finest Venetian glass artistry.
