Description
Exceptional wall tapestry after "L'escargot" by Henri Matisse 1952, Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre, Portugal
The tapestry, measuring 2m by 1.40m, was entirely made of wool in different colors by the famous Portuguese manufacturer Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre located in the Lisbon region and which has existed for almost more than a century.
The manufacture is especially known for the mastery of a particular weaving technique. This is why international artists including Jean Lurçat, Mathieu Matégot, Viera da Silva and others have had their works produced by the craftsmen of the Manufacture.
The tapestry is of exceptional quality and colors such as orange, red and yellow are particularly vivid. The wide orange edge makes other colors such as red, yellow or purple stand out even better.
The weaving of this particular tapestry took several months according to the actual director, Vera Fino whose father was the founder of the Portalegre manufacture.
Despite its age, this work is in exceptional and entirely original condition and has no discoloration, lack or other defect whatsoever.
Unique piece.
